Savor a seamless 6-night stay at an upscale resort in the heart of Cape Cod while uncovering the coastal treasures of Massachusetts and Rhode Island! From Boston’s historic Freedom Trail and Newport’s opulent Breakers Mansion to the storied shores of Plymouth and Provincetown, this classic tour also features full days dedicated to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, delivering the quintessential New England summer getaway.
Optional transfers from our departure points this morning will have us at LAX for our scheduled nonstop flight arriving in Boston late this afternoon. Those guests making their own flight arrangements can request the group’s flight schedule (subject to change) to coordinate a flight arrival time that would allow them to be included on the complimentary transfer to the hotel. Upon arrival, we’ll board a deluxe motorcoach and travel south to Cape Cod where we’ll enjoy a 6-night stay at the new Margaritaville Resort in Hyannis. This upscale, nautical-inspired retreat blends timeless New England charm with a tropical flair. This evening we’ll gather at the resort for an included dinner with our fellow travelers. (Dinner)
Following an included breakfast at the resort, we’ll join a local guide and step back into the “Camelot” era. While touring Hyannis we’ll travel past the storied Kennedy Compound and St. Francis Xavier – known locally as the “Kennedy Church” – before pausing to pay our respects at the John F. Kennedy Memorial and Korean War Memorial. This afternoon we’ll arrive in Plymouth, “America’s Hometown,” to trace the footsteps of the Pilgrims who arrived here in 1620. After visiting the iconic Plymouth Rock and the towering National Monument to the Forefathers, we’ll step aboard Mayflower II, an authentic full-scale reproduction of the Pilgrim’s famed ship. Following time at leisure for browsing and lunch on your own along Plymouth’s waterfront, we’ll take to the water aboard the Pilgrim Belle for a narrated Plymouth Harbor cruise with views of Bug Light, Gurnet Light and Clark’s Island. This evening we’ll enjoy an included dinner at the Daniel Webster Inn, an historic 18th century inn where travelers have been warmly welcomed for 350 years! (Breakfast, Dinner)
We’ll begin the day traveling along the historic “Old King’s Highway,” a scenic route lined with centuries of Cape Cod history. Led by a local guide, we’ll make our way to “land’s end” at the very tip of the Cape: Provincetown – known locally as P-Town. Enjoy time at leisure for lunch on your own and browsing the eclectic galleries and boutiques in this historic and vibrant fishing port and haven for artists. We’ll visit the Cape Cod National Seashore Visitor Center and then board enclosed “dune taxis” for an exhilarating tour of the dunes on Cape Cod National Seashore. As we traverse this protected coastline – the largest in the country– you’ll learn about the unique ecology and history of the shifting sands. Enjoy an included dinner at a locals’ favorite this evening. (Breakfast, Dinner)
This morning we’ll cross into Rhode Island to visit Newport, the legendary “Queen of Resorts.” Renowned for its maritime prestige and Gilded Age opulence, Newport is home to the most spectacular “summer cottages” ever built. With a local guide, we’ll cruise along tree-lined Bellevue Avenue and the scenic Ten-Mile Drive, marveling at the sheer scale of these magnificent estates. Enjoy time at leisure for lunch on your own and browsing in Newport’s bustling downtown, a historic and charming waterfront district with cobblestone streets, antique stores, art galleries, specialty shops and restaurants. This afternoon we’ll step inside the world of high society at The Breakers, an 11 acre estate on Ochre Point built for the grandson of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt. Considered the grandest of all of Newport’s mansions and a symbol of the Vanderbilt’s social and financial preeminence in turn-of-the-century America, this 70-room Italian Renaissance-style palazzo was the Vanderbilt family’s ultimate symbol of prestige. You’ll be awestruck by the mansion’s rare marble, alabaster, gilded wood and 2 ½ story central Great Hall. We return to Hyannis with dinner on your own this evening. (Breakfast)
This morning we’ll board a ferry for a 1-hour trip to Nantucket, the “The Faraway Land.” Led by a local guide, we’ll tour this storied island that remains a perfectly preserved masterpiece of the 1800s, featuring a landscape of rolling farmlands, pounding surf, historic lighthouses, quiet villages filled with weathered cedar-shingled cottages, and grand mansions built by wealthy whaling captains. Enjoy time at leisure this afternoon for lunch on your own and browsing the shops and art galleries in the downtown area. With over 800 structures built before 1800, the downtown area is a living museum of cobblestone streets and upscale boutiques. In fact, this is the largest National Historic Landmark District in the country! It’s easy to see why the National Park Service calls this the finest surviving example of a 19th century New England seaport. We return to Hyannis and enjoy an included dinner at a locals’ favorite this evening. (Breakfast, Dinner)
This morning we’ll board a ferry for the 1-hour trip to Martha’s Vineyard, the storied New England summer colony. A local guide will provide a driving tour of “The Vineyard,” sharing the history and local lore behind the island’s picturesque farmlands and sun-drenched beaches. In Oak Bluffs we’ll take a stroll through “Cottage City” to admire the “gingerbread” cottages – charming Victorian homes painted in a kaleidoscope of colors with intricate wooden trim. This afternoon we’ll visit the quintessential New England hamlet of Edgartown. Famous as the filming location for “Amity Island” in Jaws, this town is known for its stately whaling captains’ mansions adorned with iconic widow’s walks. Enjoy an included lobster dinner (with alternate entrée available) back in Hyannis. (Breakfast, Dinner)
This morning we’ll visit the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Set on a stunning waterfront site, the museum offers an immersive look at the “New Frontier,” from the high-stakes 1960 presidential campaign to the dawn of the U.S. Space Program. Enjoy time at leisure to explore the galleries dedicated to the Kennedy family and the enduring legacy of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. After an included lunch at a locals’ favorite in Boston, we’ll join a local guide and follow in the footsteps of American history as we see sights along the Freedom Trail, including the iconic Boston Common and the Old State House – the site of the Boston Massacre. Our scheduled nonstop flight from Boston late this afternoon will have us back at LAX tonight. Those guests making their own flight arrangements can request the group’s flight schedule to coordinate a flight departure time that would allow them to be included on the complimentary transfer to the airport. Back in Los Angeles, those guests with pre-arranged transfers will be returned to their respective destinations. (Breakfast, Lunch)
